Seedlings in Golubac fortress

On April 22, 2025, in celebration of Earth Day, Rotary Club Belgrade Terazije carried out a tree planting initiative at the magnificent Golubac Fortress, with the support of the Mihalek Nursery from Senta  and sponsorship from Nemanja Antic, an entrepreneur who secured funding for this project through his lecture at a Business Conference (read more about lecture).

The donated hornbeam, ornamental apple, and black ash trees now enrich the environment of this important cultural and historical site.

This is the second collaboration between the Rotary Club Belgrade Terazije and Golubac Fortress, as part of the club’s long-term initiative “Fortress Beautification in Serbia”, started in 2020.
Past contributions include magnolia trees to Golubac Fortress (2020), lilacs to Ram Fortress (2021), and to Maglič Fortress (2024).

Serbian fortresses preserve the rich layers of history and identity of the people who have shaped these lands. Golubac Fortress, guarding the entrance to the Đerdap Gorge, has been a silent witness to centuries of events. Legend tells of a Byzantine princess, Golubana, who leapt from the tower rather than marry a Turkish commander — a tale still whispered by the fortress winds.

Our partnership with the Golubac Fortress team has been highly professional, and we look forward to continuing our joint efforts to preserve and enrich cultural heritage across Serbia.
